The ACRL is a USA Rugby Men's Collegiate Division I-AA rugby conference featuring teams from the universities in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Atlantic Coast Rugby League is a USA Rugby Men's Collegiate Division I-AA rugby conference. The members of the ACRL are Clemson, Georgia Tech, Maryland North Carolina, North Carolina St., Virginia, Virginia Tech, and Wake Forest.
The mission of the ACRL is to provide high level intercollegiate rugby competition for the student-athletes at our member schools, while growing and promoting the sport of rugby in this country through traditional collegiate competition and rivalries.
Patrick Kane is from Syracuse, New York. He played four years of collegiate rugby at Holy Cross College in Worcester, MA and upon graduation spent three years captaining the Rochester Colonials men's team in Rochester, NY. In 2004 he began law school at Wake Forest University and became the head coach of the Wake Forest men's rugby team, a position he has held ever since. In 2008 he co-founded the Atlantic Coast Invitational and was elected as the Commissioner of the Atlantic Coast Rugby League in 2010. He currently sits on the men's collegiate competition committee for USA Rugby. In his spare time Kane practices law with Smith Moore Leatherwood in Greensboro, NC and is the father of Molly, 4 and aspiring rugger Michael, 3.
Ernie Marshall was born in Lynchburg, Virginia and received his Bachelor’s degree and Medical Degree from the University of Virginia before completing his oncology training at Johns Hopkins University. He is a retired medical oncologist and full professor of medicine. He has been the coach of the men’s rugby team at the University of Virginia since August, 2010. He played rugby for the University of Virginia during his undergraduate years and continued to play club rugby for a number of years thereafter.
South Holden has been the assistant coach of Virginia Men's rugby team since December 2011. His love of rugby stems from his childhood in England, where he started playing at eight years old. Holden represented Tring RFC, Amersham and Chiltern RFC and Berkhamsted Collegiate School while in England. He continued playing rugby after coming to UVa in 2007, captaining the team from 2008-2011. He graduated May 2011 with a Bachelor of Arts in Foreign Affairs and Studio Art. He is currently on the path to becoming an elementary school teacher, hoping to attain his Master's of Teaching from University of Virginia.
